NIMH Conference

I was lucky enough to be able to attend some of the NIMH conference at Crewe Hall hotel a couple of weeks ago. I attended on the Friday which is when all the new members are sworn in, the student awards and (existing member) fellowships are presented and the AGM is held.
I didn't actually get sworn in because my paperwork hadn't been processed through in time (the CRB check came through after the last minute) so I'll be swearing the oath in front of a Justice of the Peace which is going to be a whole different blogg post!
When I arrived you registered first and got handed a goodie bag with all the literature for the conference and a set of 10ml sample bottles of the whole Salus range (they do Floradix) http://www.salusuk.com/ and two boxes of teabags from Heath and Heather http://www.heathandheather.co.uk/, I got Echinacea & Lavender and Sage & Lemon Myrtle. All the new people were segregated off into a little receiving room where we could have tea and biscuits and once I registered that's where I was directed. When it was time to start we (all the new people) were then called through one at a time because most of the new people were being sworn in. I wasn't being sworn in so even though I was segregated off with the new people when everything started I just went into the auditorium.
The new members were called in one by one and given their certificates, once everyone had been called through they were all sworn in. Then the student awards were given out and the fellowships presented to the existing members. Once all this was done there was a break for coffee and an opportunity to look at the 'stalls' that had been set up by various companies including Mediherb http://www.mediherb.co.uk/, Herbs in a Bottle http://www.herbsinabottle.com/index.php?src=home, Avicenna http://www.avicennaherbs.co.uk/, (who have finished the new website and it looks really good) Lamberts http://www.lambertshealthcare.co.uk/, The Herbal Apothecary http://www.herbalapothecaryuk.com/herbal-home/ and Panacea  http://www.panaceahealthonline.com/home/. The Herbal Apothecary stall had a few different displays; the Sweet Cecily's display was lovely, this is predominantly a range of skincare and bodybutters etc which all felt gorgeous and smelt even better and although you can buy the products through the main catalogue it does have its own website https://www.sweetcecilys.com/ where you can buy from if you're not a herbal practitioner and therefore cannot register at The Herbal Apothecary. They also have a range of bee propolis products, they put a box of propolis lozengers in as a freebie in their new practitioner pack. I tried one and they taste gorgeous, I don't have a sore throat so I have no idea if they do anything other than taste nice at this point but I will be handing them out one per person when I do the Keeping Healthy over Winter talks on 30th October.
Most were offering new practitioner packs and I must admit it was very nice to get all the up to date price lists. Avicenna had done some special edition price lists which had beautiful pressed wildflowers from Mount Lebanon on the inside of the front page. In the catalogue I had, the pressed flower was Orchis anatolica.
The NIMH had their own 'stall' selling books that had been donated by other members and I lingered there for possibly a little too long! I did buy one small book from the Herbal Apothecary which had been written by James Fearnley and Dr Philip Wander about bee propolis and dental issues and how propolis can help with them. I'll be doing a short review of it at the end.
I really enjoyed the morning, meeting lots of people both members (old and new) of the NIMH and putting faces to the people I speak to via phone and email when ordering stock. After this I left as the rest of the day was taken up with the actual AGM until the first lecture at 4.30pm.
